Sanitary landfills are intended for the storage of solid waste discarded by man. The monitoring of this location is extremely important so that there is no risk of contamination of the soil, water and air.
Sanitary landfills must have a slurry and biogas drainage system, derived from the decomposition process of organic matter. The implementation of a rain drainage system aims to prevent contact between waste and rainwater, contributing to the control of contamination.
Slurry and biogas drainage is carried out by a network of vertical drains connected to horizontal drains built at the base of the landfill and progressively throughout its operation, until the end of its useful life. The implementation of this system guarantees the collection and conduction of the percolated liquid, aiming at reducing the internal pressures in the massif from the biogas generation, as well as directing the leachate effluent to the place of due treatment.
